Several listeners rang Heart 107.3 on Wednesday morning to tell Kim and Dave that there was a guy standing on the Hobart approach of Brooker Highway with a sign reading “Need a Job”. Mostly they rang to say the guy’s sign was rubbish: poorly painted with no phone number.
At the same time Ben Paine, a Uni Revue cast member, was on his way to Kim and Dave’s studio to do an interview with fellow cast member Josh Gourlay and Director Craig Wellington. He stopped to talk to the guy with the sign and thus Kim and Dave got the job seeker on the line live to air via Ben’s mobile (and Ben never got to the studio for the interview).
It turned out the job seeker was twenty-one year old Jake Petterwood of Launceston and he is looking for work.
Dave decided “Uni Revue” might look good on his CV, even if it isn’t a paid job. After a bit of persuasion, Dave got Craig Wellington to agree to put Jake in the show – after establishing Jake definitely could not (a) dance (b) sing or (c) act, but (d) that he was willing to “nude up” if called upon!
“The show opens in about 8 nights – now we have to get this guy up to speed. The rest of the cast have had two months to learn it,” said Wellington. “What have we done?”
That evening Jake turned up as instructed, met the rest of the cast – and started using his two left feet. He has his work cut out for him – the Uni Revue opens on Friday 8th of May… and as for Jake getting nude for the show…? Book a ticket and come along and see!
